Sadie lived almost her entire life in one state, with the exception
of her brief visit (several months) in Colorado with her son and
granddaughter. She wasn't one to venture out by herself in Colorado,
but did enjoy a day trip to the mountains or over-hill-and-dale
through Phantom Canyon.
The last of 13 children in life and death, she was loved for her humor
and crafty talents. Shy, she wasn't one to make lots of new friends
or seek out adventures (at least that I know). So, during her stay
in Colorado, I made it a special challenge to give her some fun
stories to take back home to North Carolina. One was this "Saga"
we dreamed up one afternoon - she came up with some answers to
my vague questions and I added some creative juices and giggles
- this is what we got:
Saga of Straight-Shot Sadie and Rapid-fire Robin
By Deadeye Dawn
Wild and wiley wranglers roamed the raunchy wild west's ranges. Roping,
riding, and guns came natural to them.
Straight-Shot Sadie, a sassy and sly shotgun slinger, seldom smiled,
except after shooting some "stealing sidewinder"! She saddled
a stately steed named "Sure-nuf." It seems Straight-Shot Sadie
settled on that name since people always said, "Sadie, is that YOUR
horse?" She'd reply, "Sure-nuf."
Looney Lucy was Straight-Shot's twin. Looney Lucy liked looking like
her loner sibling, Sadie. Lonesome Lane was where Looney Lucy's lovely,
livable lodge was located. The likable photo attached has the likeness
of one of the twins, but which one?
Rapid-fire Robin wrangled and rode throughout the west, ridding the
range of rotten robbers. Recognized for her rapid trigger finger, rotten
robbers and rookie robbers ran when Rapid-fire arrived in a town or camp.
Robin rode a red horse named Little Red (if I recall rightly).
Rapid-fire Robin's residence was the Rooster Ranch while the round-up
wound-up. For Rapid-Fire Robin and Little Red, riding the "hood" (neighborhood)
filled their wrangling hearts with joy.
Straight-Shot Sadie and Rapid-Fire Robin changed a "wild" west
to a "mild" west.

*Best when read aloud.
*This story is fictional and does not reflect on any real characters
or events. (At least as far as I know.)
*The writer reserves the right to embellish or change any of the short
story. (Afterall, I'm a woman and can change my mind)
*Readers better find something funny, or Straight-Shot or Rapid-Fire
will be looking for "deadpan" offenders.
So There.
